This was actually the first piece of furniture that I finished. I found it at a yard sale for $5 and wish I had gotten some other things while I was there, but I was too late.
I don't have a good before picture, but you get the idea:
Painting the legs and any thing round seems to be hard for me. I'm not the best painter.
This is how it turned out. I'm pretty proud of it!

Side Table Before & After
My mom found this side table at the thrift store and thought it would be a good starter project for me to work on since we are wanting to get some furniture pieces in our booth.
Well...this was not the best looking table, but I thought with a little sanding and some yellow paint, it would be cute...not the case. I wish I had taken a picture of the yellow paint, but it was bad. It wasn't the color, it just didn't take well to whatever finish was on the table. I suppose it would have worked better if I had a real sander and actually sanded all the finish off..It might also help if I had a garage to do this stuff in ;)
So, to try to salvage this piece, I got out my trusty spray paint (not sure what my obsession with spray painting things is). I went over all the yellow pant with "watermelon" colored paint.

Now, I know it doesn't look super awesome like I planned, but it still turned out OK. Lots better then the streaky yellow!

Sewing Table Before & After
I've never really had the room to set up a place to do my crafts. Finally we have a spare bedroom again and my crafting as taken over... literally. I look like a freaking hoarder. Well scratch that, I am a hoarder when it comes to craft things. Or things I think I can use for something later. Or clothes. Or shoes...but wait a minute, this is not about my alleged hoarding issues. This is about my craft room. I finally have a nice place to set up my sewing machine and leave it out so I can sew whenever I want. But what to put it on?? The folding table was no good since it bounces when you sew fast ( & I'm like a speed sew-er).
So.. what about this table?
It is ugly, GOLD, and has paint marks on top (who knew spray paint would soak through fabric??) But the table is sturdy and was only $5 at the thrift store. We originally bought this to use at our wedding, but that didn't happen ( the wedding happened, we just didn't use the table...) so it was just sitting on the back porch with some dead plants on it (hey - I said I was a good craft-er, not gardener).
So after a little paint and a little love, this is how it turned out:
Hard to tell, but its a light blue color and lightly distressed. Here it is in action:
The desk chair and the lamp are also thrift store finds, so in total my new sewing area cost around $15.
Score! :)

Hello :)
So, with all that being said, let me tell you a little about this blog (after all, that's why you're still reading right?)
Hello Joyce Creations is the name of my... lets call it a "project"..for now. I would love for it to someday become a "business" but we're not there yet! (maybe this blog will help?). Anyways, it really started with three friends that learned to knit. It started with one person who taught the other two at work. I wouldn't say that we didn't "work" at work, but there was a lot of down time...sitting at a desk...waiting for java to update...haha! Back to the knitting...we decided that we might try to sell some of our items on Etsy to see if we could make any extra money from this. Well that idea never really panned out they way we planned. One friend stopped being interested and the other decided to call her stuff something else. I decided that I would go with this "project" on my own and not just make knitted items. I've always been somewhat crafty and I love to sew. So, in addition to knitting, Hello Joyce Creations includes all things crafty :)
So where did the name "Hello Joyce" come from?
I'm glad you asked and no, my name is not Joyce :) Have you ever seen the movie Just Friends? This was a favorite of ours and the scene that we would always quote was this one:
So, now that you know a little about Hello Joyce, please follow us and stay along for the show :) I'll post before and afters of my projects, tutorials (hopefully - I'm bad at following directions!) and other fun stuff!
